CareAline receives US Utility Patent for its medically proven PICC Line Sleeve

We are excited to announce that our utility patent for our PICC sleeve has officially been issued! It came two days before the 7th anniversary of Saoirse's death (12/13/18), making it a bitter sweet moment for us. We are motivated to continue to push healthcare institutions to provide our proven solutions to their patient, payers to cover the costs for patients, and for patients to be able to regain some of their freedoms while living through extended treatment. Read below for more info, and feel free to reach out to me at any time.

CareAline’s newly-issued patent covers PICC line sleeve utility for critical, proactive management of vascular lines

Danvers, Massachusetts – December 13, 2018 – CareAline® Products, LLC has officially been issued US Utility patent No. 10,149,964 by the US Patent Office. The patent covers the utility of the CareAline PICC Line Sleeve for management of peripherally inserted lines, for a stretchable sleeve and wrap to protect and secure a patient’s catheter dressings and tubes.

“Through our personal experience, and by working with and listening to healthcare providers over the last eight years, we have created a product that is a necessity for managing PICC lines,” said Kezia Fitzgerald, CEO and Chief Innovation Officer of CareAline Products. “Clinicians, patients and hospitals are already seeing the benefits — especially in reducing infections — every day.”

The PICC Line Sleeve is currently being used in hospitals and clinics across the United States. The sleeve secures and contains peripheral lines to prevent catching and dislodgment, which can subject patients to readmission, additional surgery, additional doses of antibiotics, and increased risk of infection. It is comfortable to wear, clinically effective, reimbursable, and an FDA registered medical product. With this patent, the CareAline product line continues to meet a strong need in the vascular access industry; securing lines safely both when patients are in the hospital and when they go home.

“When included in a safety bundle, CareAline PICC Line Sleeves and CareAline Central Line Wraps contributed to a dramatic reduction in CLABSI rates, line breakage and other line complications,” says Dr. Claudia Hoyen, director of pediatric infection control at UH Rainbow Babies and Children’s Hospital. CareAline’s ongoing mission is to help patients live safely and fully by providing clinically effective and proven vascular access securement devices to patients, caregivers and hospitals. The company’s goal is to increase safety, comfort, and freedom for patients with implanted lines. The design and utility of the CareAline product arose out of necessity, when Kezia and her one-year-old daughter, Saoirse, underwent treatment for their cancers in 2011. Designed to keep Saoirse safe and comfortable, Kezia’s sleeves received great enthusiasm from nurses and other families, which was the driving force for Kezia to make them available to help all pediatric and adult patients.
